Tropic Tales is an initiative from Townsville City Council, highlighting the regions history and encouraging locals to share their stories as well.
Tropic Tales was a stand-out project for me. This was not only a unique opportunity to showcase some of the historic photos Townsville City Libraries have in their archives, but to get creative with them and inspire the participants to reflect on how living in the area has shaped them and their families’ lives.
Tropic Tales consisted of the overarching event, as well as three different topics to inspire participants,
“(Not) Just Another Day On The Job”, “Sharing The House”, “Love Is In Town”.
Tropic Tales
The overarching identity, six different images were deep etched and assembled together for the collage at the centre of this artwork. To help create the illusion of layers, some images were treated with a colour gradient, some with a flat colour overlay and some had no treatment at all. The amount of different images and the way they were treated were intentional in trying to show the variety of experiences that have occurred in the area. The font and colouring were also considered carefully, aiming to imply a vintage feel throughout the main and three accompanying topics.
